Where AirReveal's data comes from

Last updated 1 October 2026

AirReveal is built on open data and generous free services. Thank you to everyone below. The same list is in the app, under Settings › About › Data and Credits.

Maps

OpenStreetMap. The map data: roads, places, coastlines and more, by OpenStreetMap contributors. Available under the Open Database License (ODbL).

OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles. The map tiles and styles, free and without tracking, from OpenFreeMap, using the OpenMapTiles schema. The Night and Night Lights maps are AirReveal's own versions of OpenFreeMap's styles.

Natural Earth. Country borders and the shaded relief seen when zoomed out, from Natural Earth (public domain).

Places and flights

Overture Maps Foundation. Landmarks and places along your route: © OpenStreetMap contributors, Overture Maps Foundation, including data from Meta, Microsoft, Foursquare and others, under CDLA Permissive 2.0, Apache 2.0 and CC0. See Overture's attribution and licences.

OpenFlights. Airports, airlines, routes and aircraft types, from the OpenFlights databases, available under the Open Database License, with their contents under the Database Contents License.

Wikipedia. Landmark articles, read in your language where there is one, under CC BY-SA 4.0. Each article in the app links to its page.

AirReveal's derived OpenFlights data

AirReveal ships its own copy of the OpenFlights airport, airline, route and aircraft-type data, trimmed and converted to JSON. As a derived database it is available under the same Open Database License, with its contents under the Database Contents License:

Aircraft, photos and weather

ADSB.lol. Live positions of the aircraft around you, from a community network of receivers, under the Open Database License. See adsb.lol.

adsbdb. Aircraft details and flight routes, from adsbdb. The route data is the work of David Taylor, Edinburgh and Jim Mason, Glasgow.

Planespotters.net. Aircraft photos, each credited to its photographer in the app and linked to its page on Planespotters.net. The photos are © their photographers.

Apple Weather. Weather along your flight. See Apple Weather's data sources.
